2D replicate simulations

These simulations were carried out with the same parameters but initialized using different seeds for the random number generator. The section " Steady state derived from 2D simulations" in the paper analyzes the results from these simulations, concluding n the existence and reproducibility of a "noisy" steady state, in spite of the temporal variability observed for the biofilm structure.

2D simulations at varying erosion forces (varying kdet values)

These simulations are analyzed in the section "Influence of imposed detachment on the steady state of biofilm". Simulations were carried out with the same parameters with the exception of the kdet value.
These five simulations, originally carried out for the article "A general description of detachment for multidimensional modelling of biofilms", are analyzed in the further in the present article. Additionally, the results form the simulations are compared with 1D models to show the importance of 2D/3D modeling.
